Burst! 8 million tons of steel mills suspended indefinitely!

Compania Siderurgica Huachipato (CSH), a Chilean longwood producer, has learned that the company will cease production indefinitely.

The shutdown process will be gradual, covering all areas such as coke production, blast furnace operation, steel production, continuous casting and steel rolling lines, and is expected to be completed in approximately three months.

Despite the suspension of steel production, the company will continue to focus on studying the feasibility of building a green hydrogen-based direct reduced iron plant project, while also continuing to operate some non-steel businesses, such as port and logistics activities, to maintain business stability.

CSH is part of the CAP Group and is the main steel producer in Chile. The company has been leading the steel business in Chile since 1950, producing products for long materials such as grinding rods, wire rods, concrete rebar and special steels, with a production capacity of 8 million tons of steel per year.

In addition to CSH’s announcement of indefinite suspension of production, many steel companies under the foreign steel giant ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel and other companies have previously stopped production and laid off adjustment measures, further highlighting the many challenges faced by the global steel industry. This also reminds the players in the global steel industry that they need to constantly innovate and find new development paths in order to remain invincible in the fierce competition.
