1、Definition of clean steel
1、Definition of clean steel
In order to meet the high performance requirements of users for the production and use of steel products, steel production units must provide high-quality materials. The quality of high-quality steel is related to the cleanliness of steel, that is to say, in order to provide high-quality steel, we must first produce high-quality clean steel. As the name suggests, the so-called clean steel is the number of non-metallic inclusions in steel is small, the size is small, and the distribution is scattered. Different steel uses have different requirements for the cleanliness of steel. Therefore, the definition of clean steel should be: “When the non-metallic inclusion in the steel directly or indirectly affects the production performance and use performance of the steel, the steel is not clean steel.” If the number, size, and distribution of inclusions in the steel have no effect on the production performance and service performance of the product, then the steel can be considered clean steel.” Therefore, there is no fixed quantity value for the cleanliness of steel, which is determined according to the different processing and use performance of the product. Therefore, clean steel is not only the need for high-quality steel, all steel must be clean steel. Clean steel must not be confused with pure steel. It is emphasized that the production of clean steel platform at low cost and high efficiency is a necessary prerequisite for optimizing the process, improving the quality and reducing the cost, which is different from the “research” experiment of a small number of individual products.

Inclusions in steel can be roughly divided into two categories, that is, foreign inclusions and endogenous inclusions. Foreign inclusions are drawn into the steel by slag, or by eroded refractory materials and remain in the steel. Their involvement is related to the smelting process, and the appropriate production process can avoid foreign inclusions into the liquid steel as much as possible, and can also make the foreign inclusions in the liquid steel float and remove as much as possible.
Endogenous inclusions are composed of deoxidation products or secondary oxidation products and non-metallic inclusions such as phosphorus and sulfur. They tend to be in equilibrium with the composition of the liquid steel chemical reaction, they are naturally generated and unavoidable in the metallurgical process, and can only be reduced by various process measures, but not completely eliminated. It is precisely this endogenous nonmetallic inclusion that has a great influence on the properties of steel. This is also the key to the production of high-quality clean steel. Obviously, the quantity, size, character and distribution of non-metallic inclusions in steel are important indicators of steel quality.
